What is Narrative Therapy?
Narrative therapy is a type of counseling that helps you explore and reshape the stories you tell about your life. It's based on the idea that the way you see and talk about your experiences can impact how you feel and act.
What techniques are used in Narrative Therapy?
Externalization: We'll separate you from the problem, so you can work on it without feeling it defines you.
Deconstruction: We'll challenge unhelpful stories you might be telling yourself, helping you see things from new angles.
Re-authoring: You'll actively rewrite your own story, focusing on values and goals that matter to you.
Narrative Practices: We use exercises like journaling, storytelling, and letters to explore and reshape your narrative. Don't like to write? We'll use other forms of creative expression, like songwriting, art, or embodied movement like dance and yoga.
External Witnesses: I'll listen and support you, providing fresh perspectives and validation. We'll invite important people in your life to empower your narrative journey and provide thoughtful, compassionate feedback.
Context Matters: We'll consider how culture, society, and external factors influence your story.
Ethical and Non-Blaming: I respect your autonomy without judging or blaming. You live your life every day, whereas I am a guest. I consider it an honor and a privilege to be invited as a witness to the transformation of your narrative.
